Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

Yikes, KMD! That commute sounds awful. And maybe it's too soon, but The Hub likes to watch The Middle, and the youngest child in that family (Brick) does similar things to what it sounds like your boy is doing. But save that for when you're ready to laugh at it, instead of worry about it. We're upda...

Re: Starting a new share some good news

Yay for moving! We're casually looking for a bigger house ourselves. Preferably one with a garage. My van has too many dimples from hail storms--but at least it's just dimples!

Re: Starting a new share some good news

My friend's husband taught middle school band for a few years. He kept saying that in middle school, the kids have no souls.

So, good luck to Chris and tell him to keep a wooden stake handy.

Re: The Village's Mutual Improvement Society

Momma, you ARE taking good care of it! That walk sounds intense! Well, the scary hill that's a half-mile straight up, that sounds intense. And you feed yourself healthy food. In my own opinion, I think you're doing just fine. I know I've harped on it before, but we're surrounded by these images of w...

Mmmmmm. Oh Momma, why did I have to read this AFTER cheat day?

Darn. Guess I'll just have to print it off for next week.

Re: And now, for something completely different (religiously

Rocky's story reminds me a LOT of my husband's story, Momma. Mat hated school, but persevered until he had a degree. Then we moved to CA (we were prayed out there, which is a different story entirely). We lived off the tiny inheritance one of my grandmothers had left me while Mat trained with a self...

Re: spegs

You SHOULD have a band, Momma. Or there should be a job at a record company somewhere that solely deals with coming up with unique band names, and you should have that job. We'd all be your references, of course. :D SO, I finished rereading the Twilight series again. It's been a few years, and obvio...

Re: The Village's Mutual Improvement Society

And I'm trying to figure out a new normal for me. Still eating low GI, still doing a bodyweight/yoga exercise combo 5 days a week, and I'm maintaining. So is that a good thing? Am I at my natural body weight? Or do I need to do more work to get to my "fighting weight"? Am I allowing the cl...

Re: The Village's Mutual Improvement Society

I know, right? I have some old college roommates that keep pinning all these carb-heavy breakfasts under "School Mornings" on Pinterest and I just want to shout "No, no, no! I've learned--it's wrong!" But I think this is definitely one of those things that people have to gain a t...

Re: The Village's Mutual Improvement Society

So I totally fell off the fitness wagon once I achieved my goal, but I've found this workout on nerdfitness.com that relies on your body weight and a milk jug to do the entire routine. I've been doing it for two weeks, plus about 15 minutes of yoga to stretch out, and I'm liking it. I can watch tv o...

KMD, that sounds so difficult. I'm sorry the board is being so hard to work with! If you think that homeschooling him might be a better option (or ends up becoming Plan B), you might look into Connections Academy. If there's a school district in your state that runs it, it's free, and it takes the b...

Re: Great Writers/Books

Killing two birds with one stone, I read Living Low Carb by Jonny Bowden a while back, and his explanation of why living low carb is better for you, as well as his analysis of the various low carb "diets", was informative and yet so, so clear. I really enjoyed it.
