Re: Starting a new share some good news

Turkish delight can have any of several flavours, one of which is rose. I can see how rose can be an acquired taste - I guess I've acquired it. Faluda is also rose flavoured, and I LOVE me some faluda. Rose syrup is easy to find all over the place here... I've also had Turkish delight in other flavo...

Re: I am sad

We have some cancer in my family - stomach, pancreas, lung - but it's not a dominating force or anything. No, I'm more likely to die of a brain aneurysm. Or just get a brain aneurysm and be brain damaged for the rest of my life. But once we make it to the teens in our family, we tend to live to 90+....

Re: The joys of working with the public

It really depends on where you are. In Singapore, renting the master bedroom of a four-bedroom apartment costs around USD1400 per month, a bedroom with a shared bathroom can be around USD800+ per month. Renting a 110 square foot apartment is around the same. Renting a 525 square foot studio is aroun...

A cavity under a crown? That sounds... particularly difficult to get. Ouchies. :(

Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

My gnashing teeth involves my teeth. Literally. Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is known to mess with our teeth. When I was young, I had cavities all the time. Then, between 16 and 40something, I had none - no idea why. Then four years ago, I started getting cavities again. I saw a dentist a month ago. Long ...

Re: Starting a new share some good news

Cheap "chocolate" uses vegetable fat in the place of cocoa butter. Cocoa butter is used in real chocolate. The difference is in the melting temperature of the fat - the vegetable fat melts at a higher-than-human-body temperature, so it's still hard and waxy in the mouth. Cocoa butter melts...

Re: 7 Layer Pasta Salad

Now I'm thinking I should make a pasta salad. It's been a looooong time since I've had one. Or made one. But no ham. And not that much broccoli. Romaine? I've never put lettuce in a pasta salad. Huh. Okay...

Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

I don't like dry climates. My nose goes all wonky, as does my skin. My skin, back in Alberta winters, would crack and bleed all over the place. It was horrible. No amount of moisturizer could prevent that. It was just so... awful. No, a nice temperate climate would be nice. Something that had temper...

Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

Weather is warming up here, and by warming up, I mean I drip all the live long day. I would love to escape to a northern country for the hotter months. Maybe Iceland?

Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

Oh wow, Momma. I can't even imagine that. By the time I was 18, I'd moved (with family, of course) through 6 cities/towns and a total of 13 houses. Now I'm up to five countries, 13 cities/towns, and close to 40 houses/apartments.

Re: The joys of working with the public

So Sandee's been told her contract will not be renewed, so she finds another job. If the principal is upset, so what? He was terminating her position anyway. What's she supposed to do, wait it out until the end of the year and hope that she gets a job that may not exist? Nah. That way lies madness. ...

Re: A New Thread For Whining and General Gnashing of Teeth

The flights themselves were painful for me. Really really painful. I don't sleep on flights anyway - I try, but it never works. So I just sit there in pain. I want to become well-off enough that we can travel business or first class everywhere - that would be so much less painful. Anyway. 20 hour fl...
