Throwback Thursday

Postby mistytsim » Thu 17 Oct, 2013 12:23 pm

So, time for a roll call! Who all is here, and what can we complain about? Brag about? Television shows to discuss?

I'm here! I've been back for a few years, at least. I'll have to research exactly how long.

My recent complaints:

Invalid invocations of Godwin's Law (and Jeff's reference elsewhere on the board recently is the least of my complaints; mainly it has been Twitter invoking it without a single Hitler or Nazi reference in sight). If invoking Hitler / Nazis means you automatically lose an argument, then invoking Godwin's Law, which invokes Hitler / Nazis by reference, is the same thing. But only if you bring it up first. And not if you're Jeff, because he wasn't being hyperbolic (deliberately or otherwise) about it. What I'm saying is don't block me Jeff. :)

Democrats & Republicans. Especially Democrats. But Republicans too.

Brag about:

I'm no longer killing myself with high blood sugar, and my eyes are mostly better as a result.

Not a brag but a happy: Old house is under contract to sell, so soon I might only have one mortgage payment, so I'll be able to rebuild my savings. {knock on wood}

TV shows:

I still miss Chuck. I am enjoying Agents of SHIELD. Still like The Big Bang Theory. And Castle. Not a lot of TV otherwise that is must watch for me. Psych if it was still airing new episodes, but it's on hiatus at the moment. Of the new sitcoms this fall, I haven't seen a single one I like. I had hopes for The Goldbergs being a good 80s Wonder Years pastiche, but those hopes were quickly dashed to pieces. I gave it two episodes. No more.

I'm here!
Complaints: Being stuck in the house all day (I work at home and it keeps me tied to a desk). I'm old now.
Brags: Two, count 'em TWO missionary sons. Monkeybean will be done in late Jan, and Polliwog just started in July. Taterbean is married, and my babies are still at home as teenagers and they still like me.
TV: I too miss Chuck. I watch Doctor Who, Sherlock (over and over), Elementary, Castle, Mentalist, etc.

I miss the camaraderie of the board. I have no friends otherwise. Seriously. I just offended the last two people who liked me IRL last July. (although I am still married, so I guess I still have one friend I haven't managed to alienate)

You either still have one friend left, or the options for unfriending you are too expensive. But I'm sure it's the former, not the latter!

Nice to see everyone. I still check in once in a while (like maybe annually or so).

Lately, I've been trying to be brief in writing. Remember those essays? Sometimes I think I ought to collect them to preserve for posterity.

Still single. Just passed 1975 weeks old yesterday (the year of my birth).

Logan Midsingles Ward. Conservice.

I ended up going to that Garrens reunion show last month. Greeted Jeff, Beth, and Eric. Met Laura. I think I saw Chris and/or Lane.

Also greeted many of the old Garrens for the first time--Lisa Valentine Clark, Lincoln Hoppe, the Craigs, Daryn Tufts (though I did briefly meet him once before).

Orson Scott Card was sitting two rows behind me. I said hi. He said he'd pass on the greetings to his characters.

Half the Studio C cast was sitting nearby. (You guys watch Studio C, right? Because it's awesome). Here, I'll help you: http://is.gd/EN2e7u

Fourteen and a half years since this whole band was put together. That's a good while. I was but a lad of 23 at the time. Now here I be an old man of 1975 weeks.

Hope you're all well!

You by definition can never be old Ryan, because you will always be younger than me and I never plan to be old. So cheer up! 1975 weeks isn't old. :)

I got hooked on Doctor Who this summer. I LOVE IT. And I love Throwback Thursday!

I've found that I don't spend as much time on the computer lately (I haven't blogged in EIGHT MONTHS) in general. I check FB on my phone or tablet, and Pinterest, but I'm actually doing things. Well, things like keeping the 2-year-old cyclone and her nearly 4-year-old counterpart in check. Mostly. You see how I'm NOT posting pictures of my family room/living room. :D And I'm the ward roadshow specialist AND a ward missionary, which has eaten all remaining RAM in my brain.

BUT I'M SO GLAD TO SEE YOU ALL HERE! Poor Momma has been so lonely, and I hardly ever post, so STAY so she has someone to talk to! And so I have something to read. :D
You're unique, just like everyone else!

Yes, I'm lonely. Remember, my dog died. Poor poor pitiful me.

It would have been Lane you saw, Ryan. He was there. Wish I had been.

I guess I didn't post my update.

Mimi is 2.5 now. She's potty trained now, so life is happy happy happy.

I moved from West Carrollton to KareNin's basement. It's been AWESOME.

I'll be going back to school for winter semester.

Shows I'm watching:

Breaking Bad
Bubble Guppies
Cedar Cove
Doc McStuffins
Doctor Who
Duck Dynasty
Little Einsteins
Sofia the First
The Walking Dead

You moved into KareNin's basement??? How fun for both of you! No wonder she never has time to write to me! (Not really. I know that's not the reason.)

I'm not sure what I'm watching these days. Grey's Anatomy and Survivor for sure, and then whatever Rocky flips to. We like The Middle and Raising Hope and Parenthood, but since we lost all our DVR recordings, we'll have to start over. And often, when Rocky's home, he sits there with the remote and just flips between classic rock concerts and true crime shows. When I'm home alone, I don't even turn it on unless I have a Grey's or Survivor to watch. I'm so boring.

Howdy! I'm here!

So I'm still married to the same guy with the long beautiful hair. And I still love him and he still loves me.

In the last decade, we've lived in Sri Lanka for eight years, New Zealand for half a year, and Singapore for the last two years. We're contemplating moving to another country soon, but it won't be far... That's a longer story for another time...

I've gotten into illustration in the last year. I'm not very good, which is not surprising, since it takes real artists years and years to develop their skills. I'm... somewhat adequate for simple purposes. I've put together a book cover and working on game art for a game that the husband is revamping.

I still take a bajillion photos.

Um, what else? Nope, that's all I've got. :)

I watch plenty of TV, but I haven't watched it on a television set in years. Everything's online, with fewer commercials (just refresh Hulu on a commercial break to get it back to a 30 second commercial). And there's plenty for free without springing for a Hulu Plus or Netflix account. I really don't miss flipping channels.

The only problem is that since it's so easy to watch every episode of a show, you wind up watching every episode of a show. So, yeah.

I'm here! I kind of still feel like a newbie, although I guess I've been here for 7 years now. It's great to see posts from all of you!

Since I joined the board, we moved to Texas for a couple years (where we got to know RenLass and her family really well, and got to visit Lady C one time), and now we've been in Northern California for the past year and a half. Ondipants is 6.5 and is in Kindergarten (for the second time), Babyloo will be 4 in a couple months, and Little Buddy will be a year old in a couple weeks.

We had great friends in Texas, and it has been harder to make good friends in California, but after a year and a half, I finally feel like I have some friends. It's difficult for me to make friends IRL, so I am grateful for all my imaginary friends here on this site. And I appreciate being able to keep up with old friends on Facebook and stuff.

I watch too much TV. Adam and I like Doctor Who, Derek, Sherlock, Agents of SHIELD, Big Bang Theory, New Girl, Portlandia, the NFL. I also like Castle, Parenthood, Hawaii 5-0, CSI, Person of Interest, Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife. I have lots of episodes of Revolution on TiVo that I still need to watch. I have episodes of Hostages on the TiVo, too. I haven't started that series, but it looks interesting.

I like to crochet any chance I can get. I've also been teaching myself some knitting with YouTube videos. So yeah, just trying to stat sane while keeping up with the kids and trying to keep the house in a semblance of order and cleanliness.

Great to see everyone!

Easier to make friends in Texas than in California. I knew it! ;)

I know that's not what you said. Just go with me anyway. :)

I've been more of stalker lately. I love this board because it feels like I know everyone and I have never met most of you. Except for Jeff, who used to be in my freshman ward. But that was a long time ago.

I actually liked all the episodes of The Goldbergs I've seen so far. It may be the whole I was a child in the 80s thing. I'm die hard into Parks and Rec. I'm addicted to Call the Midwife and Downton (like the rest of the world). I like the Big Bang Theory but don't go out of my way for it. Like Ryan, I watch everything online through either Hulu or Netflix. Facebook takes most of my time. :)
