Movie Quotes

Postby CherrySlurpees » Tue 13 Aug, 2002 03:24 pm

I'm bringing the Movie Quotes thread over, since it's my favorite thread. The following quote is from Misty:

Sometimes a tree grows so fast that the roots don't develop. Sometimes you have to chop off the top in order for the roots to catch up.

Sorry Misty. No one has answered your quote, so I'll post a new one:

"This must be it."
"How do you know?"
"Because it's big and in the middle of the room."

Here's another quote from the same movie:

"Now picking your nose."
"What you feel only matters to you. It's what you do to the people you love. That's what matters. That's the only thing that counts."

Quote answer

Postby mistytsim » Sat 17 Aug, 2002 06:10 pm

I was sure Saltamonte would have come out of hiding to answer it.

Just in case you were wondering, it was fromPure Country.

Are movie titles in italics or underlined?

EDIT
Now you see the reason I could never be an English teacher...

Smallville Queen, is yours from "While You Were Sleeping"? It sounds very familiar, but I'm not quite sure where it's from.

Misty, I thought they were either in quotes or italics. Books are underlined.

Nothing is underlined... well, not really

Postby smeetuffe » Sat 17 Aug, 2002 09:08 pm

Movies, books, plays, pretty much anything long is in italics...
Poems, Short Stories, Essays, Songs, Skits, One-Act Plays are in Quotation marks.

For that matter collections of essays or songs (ie, the album title) or poems are in italics.

The only reason we still have underlining is as part of proofreading. When you mark a draft, you underline something that is supposed to be in italics.

So roughly underlining and italics are the same thing, but in the final draft, whatever's underlined should be italicized.

Hope thats helpful. :)

Underlining

Postby Ryan Reeder » Sun 18 Aug, 2002 01:05 pm

Yep. They didn't even teach us how to italicize in elementary school. It was all underlining. Back in the old days. Before Microsoft. Before the Empire.

OK, next quote, which is an easy one from one of my favorites.

"He's a genius huh?"
"That's what they tell me."
"He looks like a fruitcake to me."

Yeah TVGM and John are right, it's from While You Were Sleeping. I guess you knew that but thought I should verify it. One of my favorite movies. :D

Well, technically the movie title is just "Bean," but you still got it.

Hook

Postby angela n » Mon 19 Aug, 2002 03:14 pm

I was thinking about Peter Pan earlier today.

I saw this movie for the first time last night:

A: You want this body?
B: Is that a trick question?
