Lyric chain

Postby claytor the manly » Wed 05 Feb, 2003 11:28 pm

Here's a little game stolen from Hatrack (the dude who started it on Hatrack boosted it from somewhere else). I'll post a lyric. The next person posts a new lyric, which must have at least one word in common with the lyric before.

For example, if I post:
---------------------------------------
I waited 'til I saw the sun,
Don't know why I didn't come.

Don't Know Why, Norah Jones
---------------------------------------

Then the next person could post:
---------------------------------------
Baby you make my love come down,
Ooh you make my love, come down.

Love Come Down, Evelyn "Champagne" King
---------------------------------------

Some little rules: Don't link wimpy words like and or the; you probably don't want to list the entire song (may run into copywrite issues); don't use the same word as a link two times in a row.

Okay, here's the first lyric:

Was it a millionaire who said "imagine no possessions"?
A poor little schoolboy who said "we don't need no lessons"?
The rabid rebel dogs ransack the shampoo shop
The pop princess is downtown shooting up
And if that goddess if fit for burning
The sun will struggle up the world will still keep turning

The Other Side of Summer, Elvis Costello

Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night
It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light
For the wretched of the Earth,
there is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
Do You Hear The People Sing? Les Miserables

Now..
Hear this
Pay attention to me
'Cause I'm a rich white girl and it's plain to see
I got diamonds...
You heard about those
I got so many that I can't close my safe at night in the dark
Lying awake in a sick dream

Money, money, money.
Must be funny,
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money.
Always sunny,
In the rich man's world

"Deep down in Louisiana,
Close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods
Among the Evergreens
There stood a log cabin
Made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy
Named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like ringing a bell"

::sings::

Take to the highway
Won't you lend me your name
Your way and my way
Seem to be one and the same
Momma don't understand it
She wants to know where I've been
I'd have to be some kind of natural born fool
To want to pass that way again
But you know I can feel it
Walkin' down a country road...

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I ain't the same
Momma, I'm coming home
Times gone by seem to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Momma, I'm coming home

::sings::

Creepin' up the blind side, shinnin' up the wall
Stealin' through the dark of night
Climbin' through the window, steppin' to the floor
Checkin' to the left and the right
Pickin' up the pieces, puttin' them away
Somethin' doesn't feel quite right
Help me someone! Let me out of here!
Then out of the dark is suddenly heard:
"Welcome to the home by the sea..."

Puff the Magic Dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the Autumn mist
In a land called Hon-a-lee...

Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul & Mary

(I do not claim to have spelled Hon-a-lee right -- that's my phonetic interpretation.)
If you smile at me I will understand, 'cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language.

Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet.
I want to tell you how much I love you.

Come with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I want to tell you how much I love you.

Eyes wide open
Always hoping for the sun
And she'll sing her song to anyone
that comes along

Fragile as a leaf in autumn
Just fallin' to the ground
Without a sound

Seven Years, Norah Jones

If I had a pair of eyes on the back of my head for each time
You forgot to take out all the things you forgot to talk about when you took a bite out of my spine,
I would have a lot of eyes on me by this time wouldn't I? Wouldn't that just be fine.

Well, I come from Alabama with a banjo my my knee.
And I'm bound for Louisianna, my true love for to see.
It did rain all night the day I left
the weather was bone dry.
The sun was so hot, I froze myself, Susannah don't you go on and cry.
Oh Susannah, now don't you cry for me.
As I come from Alabama with this banjo on my knee.

(When I was little I used to sing "Oh Susannah, don't cry for me, I come from Alabama with a Band-Aid on my "yeg".)
-Susannah

Oh... exact same time. Oops, Go off either.

I've packed all my things and walked away.
I don't want to hear another word you have to say.
You use me, you deceive me,
But you never seem to leave me.
I bet you won't forget me when I go.

I've been lost in a dream, pretending that you care,
But now I've opened up my eyes and found
It's all been just a great big fairytale.
I finally realized that a good woman's hard to find.
Find yourself another, this one's movin' on.

And as the screaming fire engine siren filled the air
The evidence had vanished from my charred and smoking chair
And what they found was just a statue
Standing where the statue got me high

And continuing with the current trend of TMBG songs,
"Someone Keeps Moving my Chair"

"Is this Horrible?
Is this Horrible?
It's the ugliness men, Mr. Horrible
We're just trying to bug you
We thought that our dreadfulness
Might be a thing to annoy you with"

But Mr. Horrible says, "I don't mind
The thing that bothers me is
Someone keeps moving my chair"

"I am," I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

::sings::

She was a person I just couldn't see
And I tried to make her what she couldn't be
I tried and I tried, but of course in the end
I drove her crazy and right 'round the bend
Now it's too much to just sit here and cry
I can't be seen with a tear in my eye
Why am I standing right next to the phone
When I kept on saying I must be alone
Someone to talk to
Someone to talk to
Someone to talk to...
