I won't share you, no
I won't share you
With the drive
And ambition
The zeal I feel
This is my time

The note I wrote
As she read, she said
Has the perrier gone
Straight to my head
Or is life sick and cruel, instead?

It was just an old hand-me-down Ford
With a three-speed on the column and a dent in the door
A young boy, two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would press that clutch
And I would keep it right
And he'd say, "a little slower, son, you're doing just fine"
Just a dirt road with trash on each side
But I was Mario Andretti
When daddy let me drive

---"Drive (For Daddy Gene)" by Alan Jackson

Oh, I love trash
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash

I have here some newspaper thirteen months old
I wrapped fish inside it; it's smelly and cold
But I wouldn't trade it for a big pot o' gold
I love it because it's trash

Oh, I love trash
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash

I've a clock that won't work
And an old telephone
A broken umbrella, a rusty trombone
And I am delighted to call them my own
I love them because they're trash

Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say,
"Please share my umbrella."
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
under my umbrella.

All that summer we enjoyed it,
wind and rain and shine.
That umbrella we employed it.
By August, she was mine.

Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop.
Sometimes she'd shop,
and she would show me what she'd bought.
All the people stared as if we were both quite insane.
Someday my name and hers are going to be the same.

Now my body is starting to quiver
And the palms of my hands getting wet
I've got no reason to doubt you baby,
It's all a terrible mess

I'll run in the rain till I'm breathless
When I'm breathless I'll run till I drop, hey
The thoughts of a fool's kind of careless
I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block...

Hey there
You with the stars in your eyes
Love never made a fool of you
You used to be too wise

Hey there
You on that high-flying cloud
He wouldn't throw a crumb to you
And you think some day he'll come to you

Are you not seeing things too clear
Are you too much in love to hear
Is it all going in one ear
And out the other

And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.

Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear
Tell me, tell me that you love me too.

Listen...Do you want to know a secret?
Do you promise not to tell, wo oo wo oh,
Closer...Let me whisper in your ear
Say the words you long to hear
I'm in love with you

"Do You Want To Know a Secret?" --The Beatles

As a matter of fact, I bet there's a Beatles song someone could link to every lyric anyone posts.

In keeping with the "answer everything with a Beatles song" tradition:

Last night I said these words to my girl
I know you never even try girl
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Come on, come on, come on. come on
Please please me. oh yeah like I please you

Who's that standing out my window?

I found a new friend underneath my pillow

A come on (come on) and wreck my car
A come on (come on) and wreck my car
A come on (come on) and wreck my car
A come on (come on) and wreck my car

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my lovin' on the run

You're the cutest thing
That I ever did see
I really love your peaches
Want to shake your tree
Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time
Ooo-eee baby, I'll sure show you a good time

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you,
Tomorrow I'll miss you,
Remember I'll always be true
And then while I'm away,
I'll write home ev'ry day,
And I'll send all my lovin' to you.

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow
Try to remember, and if you remember
Then follow

In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
in our yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

"Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles

This thread has been idle for over a month. Okay, I'll quit answering every lyric with a Beatles song lyric link. I promise.

Please come back and play, everyone!

Once there were green fields kissed by the sun
Once there were valleys where rivers used to run
Once there were blue skies with white clouds high above
Once they were part of an everlasting love
We were the lovers who strolled through green fields.

Green fields are gone now, parched by the sun
Gone from the valleys where rivers used to run
Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart
Gone with the lovers who let their dreams depart
Where are those green fields that we used to roam?

I'll never know what made you run away.
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day?
I only know there's nothing left for me
Nothing in this wide world left for me to see

But I'll keep on waiting 'til you return
I'll keep on waiting until the day you learn
You can't be happy while your heart's on the roam
You won't be happy until you come back home
Home to those green fields and me once again.

(Momma, do you have any old Brothers Four albums? For many moons now, I have been wanting a CD of The Brothers Four's Greatest Hits, which I used to own on vinyl--but which went astray in the Mighty Migration Eastward of '06. Along with many, many boxes and precious items I had marked for Tom & Jon to bring to Ohio. 'Member that? And apparently a lot of the stuff got loaded onto the EXACT OPPOSITE TRUCK from what I said, so a lot of the stuff I really wanted, went to the landfill or Goodwill, and a lot of stuff I said "Do not bring these crabs out to Ohio" got brung instead? Ahh, but I've all but forgotten about it by now; in fact I almost never even mention it.)

(Edited to add--never mind. I just moseyed thru Eric's site to Amazon.com and ordered the CD.)

* * * *
So come on
Come on
Come on
Come on and TAKE it
Take another little piece of my heart now baby
(oh ohh, BREAK it...)
Break another little bit of my heart

"Piece of My Heart," Big Brother and the Holding Company
