I love the Brothers Four! When ever we get our ginormous family together my mom & my sis break out the guitars and we sing "Green Fields."

I also love "Green Leaves of Summer" from The Alamo soundtrack. Momma Snider and Auntie K, I didn't think it was possible for you to get any cooler in my book. What a stupid thing for me to think.

***

A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Billie Joe
And Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge

And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

You can take all the tea in China
Put it in a little brown bag for me
Send it right 'round all the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea.

Because...
She's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Like an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet, she's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Just like honey, baby, from the bees.

You can't stop us on the road to freedom
You can't keep us 'cuz our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry.

She's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Like an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet, she's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Just like honey, baby, from the bees.

Oh, and no, I've never had a Brothers Four album, but I learned that song on a youth conference trip to SLC when I was 16. I had just learned to play the guitar, so I came right home and figured out how to play it. I was very surprised to find that I remembered most of the words!

Just call me angel of the morning, Angel ,
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby,
Blah blah blah blah whatever

*****
"Angel of the Morning," Juice Newton and about a bajillion other people who have recorded it. I always thought she wrote it, but she did not. Jon Voight's younger brother (Chip Taylor-professional name) did. Jon Voight, of course, is now best known as Angelina Jolie's father.

I thought he was best known for biting Kramer on the arm.

Chip also wrote "Wild Thing." Merrilee Rush is the one I remember doing "Angel of the Morning," but in 1981 when Juice Newton did it, I was not hearing much music above the five kids I had then.

You can still come and bring me coffee in the morning
You can still come and make me chicken fried steak
You can live your life with whoever you please
Long as someone takes good care of me

How can I live without you
If it means I gotta get a job?
How can I live without you
If it means I gotta get a job?

You can still come and bring me those fancy pastries
You can still come and crawl into my bed
You can live your life with whomever you please to
Long as someone takes good care of me.
You know I don't mind

How can I live without you
If it means I gotta get a job?
How can I live without you
If it means I gotta get a job?

...Chickity China the Chinese chicken
Have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin' X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm gettin' frantic
Like Sting, I'm tantric
Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy
Like Kurasawa, I make mad films
Okay I don't make films,
But if I did, they'd have a Samurai
Gonna get a set o' better clubs
Gonna find the kind with the tiny nubs,
Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing...

I wondered about this comment but let it slide so it wouldn't sidetrack anyone from continuing the Lyric Chain.

But now it's been days and days since I posted my lyric, so I'm gonna jump back in here and ask: When and under what circumstances did Jon Voight bite Kramer on the arm? I'm sorry; I'm not familiar with this reference.

SuperSon?? Spill it, dude.

The synopsis? It's from a Seinfeld episode. Let's see if I get it right.

George bought a convertible solely because it belonged to Jon Voight. But, it wasn't Jon Voight, the actor, it was John Voight, the dentist.

There was a pencil in the car that had teeth marks in it, so George and Kramer's bright idea was to get Jon Voight to bite him on the arm so they could take it to Tim the dentist to make a cast of it to compare. While talking to Tim the dentist, he tells them about John Voight, the dentist and that it was his car, not Jon Voight, the actor's car.

Okay...so that's about it. I think that's kind of how it played out.

Pretty close. Also, according to the owner's manual Jerry found in the glove compartment, the car belonged to John (with an H) Voight, but George becomes defensive when Jerry points out the spelling. Jerry then responds with "I'm sure 'Jon' probably misspelled his own name. I know sometimes I spell Jerry with a G..."

The stars are out, the moon is up
It's time to go to bed
I'm so glad you have a place
To lay your little head.

Have a deep and peaceful sleep
Dream away the hours
When you wake the sun will come
To smile upon the flowers.

Go to sleep, my little friend
Beneath the evening star
You will always have a friend,
No matter where you are.

"Friends Lullaby"
From an old Disney children's collection

'Cause I got a peaceful, easy feeling
And I know you won't let me down
'Cause I'm already standing
On the ground.

And I found out a long time ago
What a woman can do to your soul
Ah, but she can't take you any way
You don't already know how to go

And I get a peaceful, easy feeling
And I know you won't let me down
'Cause I'm already standing
On the ground.

Don't let me down gently
If you have to let me down at all

I ain't calling you familiar
I don't know your face that well
Not like the shaving mirror
Hanging up inside your cell
I didn't call you here to tell you
I didn't call you here at all
'Cos I'm talking to myself again
And you're talking to the wall

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away

--Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine"

Some sunny day-hay baby
When everything seems okay, baby
You'll wake up and find out you're alone
'Cause I'll be gone
Gone, gone, gone
really gone
Gone, ga-gone,
'cause you done me wrong

Everyone that you meet baby
As you walk down the street baby
Will ask you why you're walkin' all alone
Why you're on your own
Just say I'm gone
Gone, gone, gone
Gone, ga-gone,
'cause you done me wrong

"Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)" by Don and Phil Everly

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
Now the dark days are done and the bright days are here
My sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the sunshine bouquet
Sunny, thank you for the love you brought my way
You gave to me your all and all
And now I feel ten feet tall
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the truth you let me see
Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to Z
My life was torn like wind-blown sand, then
A rock was formed when we held hands
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for that smile upon your face
Sunny, thank you for that gleam that glows with grace
You're my spark of nature's fire
You're my sweet complete desire
Sunny one so true, yes I love you.

Even now
when there's someone else who cares
when there's someone home who's waiting just for me
even now I think about you as I'm climbing up the stairs
and I wonder what to do so she won't see
that even now
when I know it wasn't right
and I found a better life than what we had
even now I wakeup crying in the middle of the night
and I can't believe it still could hurt so bad

Mine too, Momma. Dusty Springfield also does a nice cover too though.

...Have I the right to touch you?
If I could you'd see how much you
Send those shivers running down my spine.
Ooh Ooh

Have I the right to thrill you?
You know I'll wait until you
Give me the right to make you mine.

Well, Come right back I just can't bear it
I've got this love and I long to share it
Come right back I'll show my love is strong.
Oh yeah.
All right!...

"Have I the Right?" by The Honeycombs, who used the word "right" in at least 3 different ways in that song. A marvel unto itself.
